Here are highlights in history for Aug. 23, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1989 — The Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association designated Albert Lea’s Sibley Elementary School as one of seven Schools of Excellence in the state.
1979 — An advertisement said Tom Bell’s Townhouse in Albert Lea would soon have a companion place in Lakeville near I-35.
1949 — “Murder in B-Flat Minor,” a play written by Niels West-Larsen of Albert Lea, was featured in a program on the Canadian radio broadcasting network.
