Here are highlights in history for Aug. 29, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1984 — A high temperature of 95 degrees above zero the previous day resulted in the closing of Albert Lea schools. The Tribune called this a “heat day.”
1974 — An Albert Lea resident complained about children standing in the aisles of overcrowded school buses. As a result, five citations were written by city police officers regarding this problem the following day.
1964 — Nancy Nelson of the Murtaugh Club and Trudy Jenson of the Albert Lea Club won most of the awards at the 4-H Horse Show.
