Here are highlights in history for Aug. 27, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1993 — A column explained that the “Ethel & Albert” radio and television program originated at Albert Lea’s Radio Station KATE in 1938 and starred Peg Lynch.
1983 — A column by Maude Koevenig questioned the practice of aerial spraying for mosquito control. She commented that many other helpful insects, like bees, were also being killed by this method.
1963 — A total of 255 area children received certificates after completing the Red Cross swim program at City Beach at the west end of Johnson Street.
