Here are highlights in history for Aug. 30, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1985 — Robert L. Myers, longtime director of vocal music at Albert Lea High School, died the previous day at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

1975 — The new eight-siren civil defense alert system became operational and would start a testing schedule in the Albert Lea area.

1945 — Mary King resigned as the administrator of Naeve Hospital. She had been a part of the operations at this hospital for 32 years.
