Here are highlights in history for Aug. 2, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1993 — An “Almost Anything Goes at the Beach” party, sponsored by the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Department, was held at the west end of Johnson Street.
1983 — Andy and Ruth Sanders were Albert Lea’s “diving couple.” This couple were scuba instructors for the Family Y, and they had taught about 500 people in the area how to dive.
1953 — Seven Freeborn County organizations released 1,150 eight-week old pheasants around the county. These birds came from the state hatchery south of Madelia.
