Here are highlights in history for Sept. 1, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1987 — A cartoon on the editorial page was based on columns by Lewis Grizzard that would be appearing on Page 4 starting on Sept. 4.
1977 — John Gaydo, co-owner of Bob’s Lanes on South Frank Avenue, announced that the 24-lane bowling complex would be rebuilt. This building had been destroyed by fire in May. (Note: This rebuilding never became a reality.)
1937 — A new Minnesota law said each car lot shipment of potatoes had to be inspected by a federal-state inspector for grade, quality and condition of the tubers.
