Here are highlights in history for Sept. 16, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1984 — Students at Wells-Easton High School selected their first ever homecoming king. He was Mark Schroeder, son of Harold and Cathy Schroeder of rural Wells.
1974 — Despite cold weather, 71 skiers participated in the Albert Lea Water Ski Association Tournament. This event took place over two days.
1984 — Al Schmall, Tribune employee for 11 1/2 years and managing editor for 6 1/2 of those years, would be the new editor of the Daily Independent in Grand Island, Neb.
