Here are highlights in history for Sept. 17, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1985 — Two front-page articles in the Tribune were based on the deadly effects of silo gas for people on area farms.

1975 — A front page article said the state of South Dakota was trying to lure Minnesota firms to move to that state. Part of the bait was South Dakota’s policy of no corporate taxes.

1945 — Mr. and Mrs. Robert Conn of Geneva were informed that their son, Capt. Robert E. Conn, a prisoner of war since April 1942, had been liberated from a Japanese camp.
