Here are highlights in history for Sept. 23, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1990 — A fire caused $90,000 damages to the Albert Lea Sports Center, 309 Fenton Ave.
1980 — The fall conference of the Minnesota Foster Parent Association would be held in Albert Lea on Oct. 24 and 25.
1970 — Demolition of the buildings on William Street between Broadway and Newton Avenues that once housed Albert Lea Clothing, Christensen Dress Shop, Thorp Loan and Thrift and Phil’s Cafe was under way. (The site of these four buildings is now a city parking lot.)
