Here are highlights in history for Sept. 29, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1989 — The first National Open Pointing Dog Championship, sponsored by the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America, was held at Helmer Myre State Park.
1979 — Le Ann Ignaszewski, Terri Jensen, Kristin Jenson, Jean Lundell and Joy Paulson were the candidates for crowning as homecoming queen at Albert Lea High School.
1939 — The Albert Lea High School Tigers football team defeated the Northfield Raiders 13-6 in the opening game of the Big Eight Conference.
