St. John’s Auxiliary met Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Chapel. President JoAnne Fink welcomed everyone. Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Hymns, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” were sung, accompanied by Becky Nordland.

Caroline Neale read the minutes of the August auxiliary meeting. Lorraine Schaper presented the treasurer’s report. Reports were approved and placed on file.

Fink reported the fundraiser committee has finalized plans for the Oct. 10 annual fall luncheon. The menu is scalloped potatoes and ham, salad, pickles and bars. Serving will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost of the luncheon is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 10, and free for children 5 and under. Several quilted items will be raffled. Money raised will go to St. John’s Garden Fund. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide supplemental funds. The next committee meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18.

The Nominating Committee is working on a new slate of officers for 2011.

Carla Reichel, volunteer coordinator, reported there were 820 volunteer hours in August. Day Care had 18.5 hours, two You and Me Clubs and two sing-alongs.

Activities director Diane Wichmann said St. John’s scarecrows won first place in the organizations category at the Minnesota State Fair. Some of the many activities planned for October include a windmill farm visit, slide show of the state fair, Clover Leaf Lions leaf tour, Epland farm tour, healing service, haunted house and Halloween party.

Vice President Carol Rask read the names of residents celebrating September birthdays and the birthday song was sung in their honor. Celebrating September birthdays are Ruth Callahan, Harriet Butenhoff, Esther Quam, Barbara Bolinger, Ardith Schewe, Ellen Harrison, Lewis Grund, Susan Brown, Joseph Probst, Clarissa Harvey, Dorothy Bridley, Fay Zimmerman, Helen Nelson, Mary Podlogar, Alice Reinhart, Leona Taylor and Nellie Johnson.

Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were Zion Lutheran, Emmons Lutheran, and St. Paul’s Lutheran-Conger. Kent Otterman was thanked for presenting the Cheer program.

Carol Rask introduced Gail Thurnau of Christ Episcopal Church and Mary Wayne who presented a program of stories and songs about fall.

The meeting ended by saying the Lord’s Prayer. Refreshments were provided by St. John’s Dietary Department.
