Here are highlights in history for Oct. 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1987 — As part of Fire Prevention Week, members and equipment from the Alden, Conger and Freeborn Fire Departments went to Alden-Conger-Freeborn Elementary School for a special program.

1977 — The front page had an illustration of the Broadview Center, an indoor shopping center and office building to be located at the north end of Broadway Avenue. (Note: This proposed center never became a reality.)

1947 — A helicopter was at the Albert Lea Airport to give short rides for Tribune newspaper carriers.
