2 dead in convenience store shootings in Algona, Humboldt

ALGONA, Iowa — Authorities says two store clerks have been shot to death in attempted robberies at two convenience stores in Algona and Humboldt, Iowa, and a suspect is in custody.
The Kossuth County Attorney’s Office says a female store clerk was shot late Monday at the Crossroads gas station in Algona after being robbed at gun point. Another clerk was shot and killed at the Kum & Go in Humboldt.
Officials say a suspect in both shootings was taken into custody at 11:40 p.m. Monday in Webster City, Iowa.
The suspect has been transferred to the Kossuth County Jail. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
A press conference originally planned for 10:30 this morning, was postponed until 1 p.m. according to a joint release from the Kossuth and Humboldt county attorney’s offices.
The investigation continues and charges are pending.
Assisting the Algona Police Department in the investigation are the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Webster City Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
