A winter storm warning remains in effect for much of Minnesota today, according to the National Weather Service.
Albert Lea is forecast to receive about an inch of snow Saturday and another inch overnight. Freeborn County is in a northeast-southwest running strip of the state that is in a winter weather advisory. However, just to the west, Faribault County and Blue Earth County are in the winter storm warning.
That same warning extends to the Twin Cities metropolitan area, which is expected to receive 4 to 8 inches of the white stuff today.
With temperatures hovering near the freezing mark, much of the state could get freezing rain, too, making travel difficult. As of 7:30 a.m., the Minnesota Department of Transportation says driving in Freeborn County is fair but gets worse as motorists travel north. MnDOT says driving conditions are difficult on Interstate 35 get worse around the Ellendale-Blooming Prairie exit.
Interstate 90 gets worse going westward, starting around the Alden exit, MnDOT reports. Travel is not recommended.
Wind in Freeborn County and across much of the state is predicted to be around 16 mph with gusts up to 39.
