Peek at the Past

Here are highlights in history for Nov. 29, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1987 — It was “busy Friday” at the Northbridge Mall as people started to buy Christmas gifts.
1977 — No one wanted the “free house” at the corner of Ruble and Bridge Avenues. This house had been purchased by Security State Bank to provide space for an expansion project. However, expenses to move the house elsewhere resulted in no one wanting this house.
1947 — The Civil War soldier statue near the Freeborn County Courthouse would be getting a nearby seasonal reminder — a Nativity scene for the Christmas season.
