Here are highlights in history for Nov. 2, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — The junior class at Albert Lea High School collected $869.30 for the United Way fund drive. Each member of the class was asked to contribute at least a dollar.
1976 — A barn fire at the George A. Wichman farm in Alden Township resulted in estimated damages of $30,000 and the deaths of 20 sows and 175 young pigs.
1946 — Unemployment in Albert Lea was 313. For the previous month the number of unemployed was 554.
