NORTHWOOD, Iowa — The star of blockbuster films like “The Hot Chick” and “Deuce Bigalo: Male Gigolo” is making a one-night appearance at the Diamond Jo Casino, and tickets are going fast.

Stand-up comic and “Saturday Night Live” veteran Rob Schneider will perform two shows at the Diamond Jo Event Center on Nov. 13.

“People are very excited about Rob coming to the Event Center,” said Scott Smith, assistant general manager at Diamond Jo Casino. “Almost everyone has seen at least one of his movies, which helps with the name recognition.”

“All of Rob Schneider’s movies are comedy, so it’s going to be a great show,” he added.

Smith said the performance will feature adult humor comedy and he fully expects both appearances to be sellouts.

Schneider is well known for several trademark characters from the NBC sketch-comedy series “Saturday Night Live,” including perhaps his most famous, Richard Laymer, an office worker who lurked near the copier, narrating the attempts of any fellow employees to use the machine with the phrase, “Makin’ copies!”

Schneider also had starring roles in “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo,” “The Hot Chick” and “Grown Ups.”

He’s made cameo appearances in several Adam Sandler movies, as well, with his signature line, “You can do it!”

Smith originally booked Schneider’s performance back in August.

“I have always been a fan of his work as an actor, so when I heard he was doing a comedy tour, I looked into it,” Smith said.

Smith said Schneider fit the bill as a good act for the Event Center not only for his star power but also because his humor crosses generational boundaries.

“He has fans of all ages that watch his movies and that is generally what I look for when booking an act at the Event Center,” Smith said.

Smith said that while many of the acts at the event center feature live music, they do try to book a comedy act once every three months or so.

This will be Schneider’s first appearance at the Diamond Jo Event Center in Northwood.

The night before his Northwood appearance, Schneider will appear at the Mississippi Moon Bar of the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa.
