Eileen Farmer, 78, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Eileen R. Farmer, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the State Line Cemetery, Gordonsville.

Eileen died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 78 years of age.

Eileen was born March 30, 1932, in Freeborn County the daughter of Charles and Eliza (Beighley) Barber. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School in 1950.

Eileen grew up on the farm in Freeborn County and remained a resident most of her life.

Eileen was united in marriage to Vernon Oakland and later in life to James Farmer. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and an active participant in the church circle. She had been employed as a clerk for many years and worked at Thorne Crest Retirement Center in the kitchen. She also was active in various senior groups.

Eileen loved dancing and playing cards, writing letters, entering in her journal, reading and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Barry Oakland of Rochester, Judy (Rich) Olson of Hayward, Joyce (Dan) Purdy of Albert Lea, Janice (John) Habana of Hayward, Sue (Eric) Anderson of Louisville, Colo., Brian (Becky) Oakland of Spring Valley and David (Becky) Oakland of Lake City; grandchildren: Michelle (Ranger) Hall, Heather (Paul) Anderson, Amy (Mike) Runkle, Tom (Jenny) Habana, Matt (Kayla) Habana, Corey Anderson, Joey Anderson, Megan Oakland, Kathryn Oakland and Nick Bjugan; several step children and step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three brothers and three sisters.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the Freeborn County Relay For Life, Senior Resources or the local food shelf.
