Three main street buildings in Emmons have a date with the wrecking ball.
Buildings located at 101 Main St., 102 Main St. and 111 Main St. are scheduled to be demolished beginning Monday, Dec. 13. The sites will be completely flattened by Friday, Dec. 17.
According to Emmons Mayor Jeannie Opdahl, the buildings were badly deteriorated and posed a safety hazard to the general public. Two of the buildings had bricks crumbling and falling off; the third had siding stripped because of asbestos.
Emmons City Councilman Loren Honsey said that financially, it made sense to demolish the buildings, as it would cost much more to try and restore them than tear them down.
Honsey said one of the buildings was once the site of a cafe and another was home to a grocery store for many years. The third was widely known as Sharkey’s Pool Hall.
