A 27-year-old Albert Lea man pleaded guilty in Freeborn County District Court Friday to possessing child pornography as part of a plea agreement in his case.
In the agreement, Travis Jon Holst pleaded guilty to two of his 12 felony counts of child pornography possession. His remaining 10 counts were dismissed.
The plea came after he was arrested in March 2010 following more than a year of investigation by the Albert Lea Police Department, the Minneapolis Police Department and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Authorities reportedly found multimedia files on Holst’s computer during a search of his residence that involved 10 or 12-year-old children engaged in sexual acts.
Both Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson and Holst’s lawyer, Evan Larson of Austin, recommended Holst serve 15 days of electronic home monitoring concurrently for each count and serve no new jail time. He is not required to serve jail time under Minnesota law because of his criminal history score, according to both lawyers.
He will also have to register as a sex offender and may have to complete a psychosexual evaluation prior to sentencing, though it is not required.
He can withdraw his plea at the time of sentencing if the judge decides to depart from the recommendations.
His sentencing has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. April 4.
