The Albert Lea Tigers wrestling team moved within two matches of a Big Nine championship Friday with a 45-18 win over Rochester John Marshall at Albert Lea High School.

The Tigers picked up five falls in the win with a shuffled lineup and without some regular starters.

“We wrestled good tonight,” Tigers head coach Larry Goodnature said. “We had some kids up a weight class and didn’t have a full lineup.”

Goodnature said Dakota and Garrett Wangsness looked very good. Both wrestlers earned falls.

“We’re another step closer to a Big Nine championship,” Goodnature said.

The Tigers junior varsity team will be competing at a tournament in Northfield Saturday while the varsity gets a weekend off.
