GOP to lay out Minn. budget fix

ST. PAUL — Minnesota’s 2011 legislative session will be dominated by talk about the state budget deficit. Republicans who run the House and Senate are raising the curtain on that discussion.
The GOP majorities planned today to lay out the first part of a budget fix. Minnesota is projected to run a $6.2 billion budget deficit over the next two years.
GOP House Majority Leader Matt Dean says they won’t wait for Dayton to release his budget proposal on Feb. 15. Dean said last week that budget cut bills would be introduced “very, very soon.”
Control of the Legislature shifted away from Democrats in last fall’s election.
Republicans who control the Legislature want to erase the deficit without raising taxes, while Dayton is calling for higher income taxes on the highest incomes.
