Kids to dig out fire hydrants

Kids from Albert Lea Youth For Christ will be digging out fire hydrants today as part of a community service project. According to Rick Miller, city life director for Youth For Christ, this is an opportunity for kids to earn scholarship money for conferences. Scholarship money comes from donations from the community and fundraisers.

Albert Lea Fire Department officials said there are more than 1,300 fire hydrants within the city of Albert Lea, and they are appreciative of the efforts of Youth For Christ.

“A fire doubles every one to two minutes — the less time we have to take to find and dig out the hydrant, the quicker we can put out the fire and save property and lives,” said Capt. Mark Light.
