Here are highlights in history for Jan. 12, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1987 — The Albert Lea Jaycees held their annual Christmas tree pick-up on the previous day at several city parks.
1977 — The Tradehome store in downtown Albert Lea was selling women’s and girls’ sports shoes for $4.99 to $8.99 a pair. Men’s shoes were 30 to 50 percent off for pricing.
1947 — Patty Wright was one of 10 contenders for the title of Albert Lea’s Snow Queen ands won this honor as a dance where music was provided by the Al Menke Orchestra.
