Lake Mills-Northwood-Kensett wrestlers sweep duals

MASON CITY, Iowa — The Lake Mills-Northwood-Kensett Ducks wrestling team traveled to Mason City  on Thursday as they took on the Mason City Newman Knights and the Belmond-Klemme Broncos.

The Ducks swept the dual with a 70-0 win over Belmond-Klemme and a 52-18 win over the Newman Knights.

“Tonight was a really fun night, especially the dual against Newman,” LM-NK coach Alex Brandenburg said. “Noah Irons beat a senior who had placed at state, early in the dual and that got the bench and crowd excited and it lasted through the whole dual.”

In the first Dual against Belmond-Klemme, LM-NK received seven forfeits and had three pins to blow by the Broncos 70-0.

Cameron Batton, Spencer Capitani and Royce Byrnes all earned pins against Belmond-Klemme.

In their second match against Mason City Newman, the Ducks recorded five pins and Irons earned a key win over Keegan Taylor, who placed at state last season.

Lincoln Boehmer, Spencer Capitani, Royce Byrnes, Ben Irons and Merrick Harig all recorded pins against the Knights.

Brandenburg says that he can’t believe how much fun this years team is having on the mat.

“I can’t believe how much fun the kids are having this year, and how supportive they are of their teammates,” Brandenburg said. “We want are kids to have fun, take chances, and be aggressive.”

With the wins, the Ducks improve their dual record to 11-2 on the season.
