Albert Lea girls’ hockey overcame 4-1 deficit on the road
Anna Anderson led a third-period rally Thursday as the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team overcame a three goal deficit to earn a 4-4 ties on the road against Rochester Mayo.
Mariah Leach scored the Tigers first two goals and Anderson scored the final two, including the game-tying goal in the third period.
“We really played our best hockey of the year tonight,” Tigers head coach Paul Willet said. “We battled all night long and it payed off in the end. We continue to get better.”
Willet said the Tigers dominated the second and third periods and portions of overtime.
The Tigers lost to the Spartans 6-1 on Dec. 9 at City Arena.
“It feels pretty good after the way they took it to us the first time,” Willet said, of the win.
Leach’s two goals came after a week of illness.
“She gave a gutsy performance,” Willet said, of Leach. “Anderson was also absolutely fabulous. She was dominant every time she was on the ice.”
The Tigers play again at 7 p.m. Monday against Dodge Center at City Arena.
