You Can Help

The following are some of the opportunities for volunteers of any age currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

The Rock and Youth for Christ: Help is needed during the day doing mailings, as a handyman or an organizing person as well as after school from 3 to 5:30 p.m. when there are lots of kids around. Play games, chat with the kids and just be a positive adult presence. Choose a day, call 373-1015, and help to make sure our youth have solid, safe weekday opportunities.

Senior Resources /AARP Aide: Phone receptionists for AARP tax preparers are needed to schedule appointments for individuals coming to file taxes in 2011. Volunteer receptionists can select the days or half days that work best starting Jan. 7 with a training of the script to be used. This assistance can make all the difference for moderate to limited income households. Call Stumme at 377-7433 to start your training.

Martin Luther King Breakfast and Program: The 23rd annual MLK Day Program and breakfast will be held at Bethany Hall, First Lutheran Church from 7 to 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17. To make it a day for service rather than a day off, can you help as a greeter or to serve the continental breakfast and clean up? Please call Stumme at 377-7433 to volunteer.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
