Drivers are being advised to take caution during this afternoon’s commute home, as Freeborn County remains in a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. today.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing drizzle is expected to turn into light snow this afternoon. Another 1 to 3 inches of new snow accumulation is possible, with blowing and drifting snow before 9 p.m.
The weather service wants to remind people to drive safe, as drizzle and snow are causing slippery roads and limited visibilities in some areas.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising drivers to take extra caution on roadways throughout Freeborn County. Packed snow on the roads and icy patches is causing slippery roads and difficult driving conditions along Interstates 35 and 90.
U.S. Highways 65 and 69 are reported as slippery with icy patches this morning. Blowing and drifting snow is causing limiting visibilities in some open areas.
