Lillian Young, 90, New Richland

Lillian Beatrice Young, 90, of New Richland, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at the New Richland Care Center, New Richland. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The Rev. Paul Meierding will officiate and burial will be in LeSueur River Cemetery, New Richland. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the New Richland Food Bank.

Lillian Young

Lillian was born May 26, 1920, at her home in Manchester, the daughter of John and Caroline (Hallum) Ausen. She was baptized and confirmed at West Freeborn Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm near Manchester and attended country school. She was a 1939 graduate of Freeborn High School. Lillian worked at the Manchester bank until 1946. In 1942, she was united in marriage to Sylvan Andrew Berg. Lillian was a housewife and farming partner with her husband Sylvan. Sylvan preceded her in death in 1979. In 1991, Lillian was united in marriage to Fritz A. Young.

Lillian was a member of LeSueur Lutheran Church where she was very active. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning, freezing and cooking meals for everyone. She also enjoyed baking, making lefse and spending time with her family. She had livestock, chickens, dogs and cats.

Lillian is survived by her two children: Syvert (Darlene) Berg of New Richland and Tom (Wendy) Berg of Granger, Iowa; six grandchildren: Sam (Sarah Jean) Berg, Sarah (Shane) Whitesitt, Marshall (Lisa) Berg, Miranda (Jamie Lee) Morgan, Amos (Angie) Berg and Jamie (Paul) Davis; seven great-grandchildren: Caden Berg, Keyten Berg, Thomas Berg, Mallory Berg, Alexavier Morgan, Maxwell Morgan and Brock Berg. She is also survived by her siblings: Oscar (LaVonne) Ausen, Paul (Lois) Ausen and Ruth Solheid; two sisters-in-law: Margrete Aasen and Betty Berg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvan, in 1979; husband, Fritz, in 1994; her parents; and six siblings: Eric Ausen, Inga Olson, Olive Nordeen, Agnes Hartz, Edgar Ausen and Carroll Aasen. She was also preceded by special friends, Gordon Tollefson and Harvey Crumb.
