Here are highlights in history for Feb. 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1988 — About 260 acres in Freeborn County would be planted with trees as part of the Conservation Reserve Program.

1978 — One of the weekly columnists in the Tribune was City Editor Kevin Sweeney.

1958 — Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers from Freeborn, Faribault and Waseca Counties held a competitive skills event at the Albert Lea National Guard Armory.
