Here are highlights in history for Feb. 9, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1989 — The Freeborn County Board of Commissioners authorized the purchase of the former National Guard Armory at the corner of West Clark Street and South Washington Avenue.
1979 — The Albert Lea High School Tigerettes girls’ basketball team lost to the Austin High School Packers with a score of 53-31 in a game played at the Southwest Gymnasium.
1959 — Problems regarding space, facilities and finances forced School District 241 Board of Education to forego plans for a new junior college in Albert Lea.
