1986 — State Representative Pat Piper of Austin announced that she would be a candidate for the District 31 state senate position.

1976 — An editorial in the Tribune saluted the area Future Farmers of America members during National FFA Week.

1946 — A huge snowdrift on U.S. Highway 69 between Emmons and Lake Mills, Iowa, was described as being three miles in length and 12 to 15 feet high.
