John Stephenson, 91, Fleming Island, Fla.

Funeral services for John Robert Stephenson, 91, were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Harbor Baptist Church, 1120 Clay Street, Fleming Island, Fla., with the Rev. Samuel Jewell officiating. Interment followed at 2 p.m from the graveside at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery.

John served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II, and retired after 20 years of decorated service. He was a man of many hobbies. He taught himself watch making and repair, printing, photography and the accordion. John also built his own home, serviced and repaired his own vehicles, and could do just about anything he put his mind to.

Mr. Stephenson is survived by his loving wife of 51 years and seven months, Frances E. Stephenson; two daughters: Emily Burns (husband Gary Berg) and Gail E. Heyel; son, John E. Stephenson; two step-daughters: Barbara Johnson and Carol East; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.

John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He put his family first, and as his wife said, they had a perfect marriage. John was a good man and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
