Lakeview has some heroes

I recently read with interest a Sunday edition of the Albert Lea Tribune that highlighted “Everyday Heroes.” As a newcomer to the Albert Lea community, most of the names and faces were unfamiliar to me. However, since I’ve moved to the area, I have discovered some heroes that weren’t mentioned. I’m speaking of a group of dedicated individuals at Lakeview Elementary School.

Eight months ago my daughter, grandson and I contemplated a move to Albert Lea in order to be closer to family living here. Our No. 1 consideration was the quality of the schools in the area. My grandson has special needs, and we wanted to make the transition as comfortable as possible for him. The Success Room at Lakeview seemed to be a good fit.

In the past six months his progress has been amazing. His speech has improved dramatically as have his social skills — areas that are often problematic for children with autism spectrum disorders, Kaden has blossomed due in large part to the wonderful teachers and aides who help enrich his life. Our family praises these heroic people. Working with our most vulnerable kids is not an easy job.
