Marlin Flatness, 80, Glenville

Funeral services for Marlin Dennis Flatness of Glenville will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Krista Stokke will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville.

Marlin died Saturday evening, March 26, 2011, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Home. He was 80 years of age.

Marlin was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Northwood, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Sena (Hauge) Flatness. He attended public school in Albert Lea and on April 3, 1954 was united in marriage to Donna Mandt.

Marlin was engaged in farming and worked part time at the John Deere Dealership in Northwood, Iowa. He drove road grader for the Shell Rock Township for many years and raised cattle on his farm. Marlin spent many years on the township board. He served his country in the U.S. Army being discharged in 1954.

Marlin loved sports and enjoyed going to the children’s sporting events. In the summer he would go to the county fairs to show livestock. He always had a pet cat around the house.

Marlin is survived by his children: Todd and Christine of Amboy, Tracy and Julie of Coon Rapids; grandchildren include: Michael and Lynn Flatness and Nathan (Danya) Olson. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Donald (Janet) Flatness of Glenville, Lois (Archie) Lau of Albert Lea, Janice Houg of Glenville, and Lyle (Barb) Flatness of Maquoketa, Iowa; son-in-law, Steven Olson of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Alfred (Delores) Mandt of Urbandale; and sister-in-law, Lois Flatness, of Albert Lea. There are numerous nieces and nephews.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna, in 1997; daughter, Debra Olson; brother, Richard Flatness; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Houg.
