Phyllis Morris, 86, Fairmont

A celebration of life service for Phyllis J. Morris, 86, of Fairmont, will be 10 am. Thursday at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Osage Cemetery in Osage, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Phyllis passed away on Monday morning, March 14, 2011, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Phyllis Jane (Wilson) Morris was born on Aug. 26, 1924, in Alma, Iowa. She was the daughter of Delbert and Leona (Rowe) Wilson. She received her education in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1942.
On Nov. 15, 1942, Phyllis was united in marriage to LaVerne W. Morris in Albert Lea. The couple resided in Albert Lea and Worthington before moving to Fairmont. This union was blessed with two daughters, Connie and Jeanne. Phyllis and LaVerne shared more than 68 years together.
Phyllis worked as a salesclerk at Wallace’s department store and Montgomery Ward catalog store in Fairmont until her retirement in December of 1985. Although she was employed, Phyllis spent most of her time caring for her family as a homemaker.
Phyllis was an active member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church where she participated in White Cross, was a deaconess and taught Sunday School. During her free time, Phyllis enjoyed sewing, crocheting afghans, bird watching and tending to her flowers. She was especially fond of her roses.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, LaVerne Morris of Fairmont; daughters: Connie Tuin and her husband, Ron, of Faribault, and Jeanne Subbert and her husband, Roger, of Fairmont; grandchildren: Shannon Subbert and his wife, Pat, Jason Subbert and his wife, Lois, Amy Subbert and her fiancé, Kevin Zimmer, Julie Bauman and her husband, Daren, Laurie Johnson and her husband, Keith, and Nicole Feller and her husband, Brent; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Madelon Collette; stepsister, Lucille Carlson and her husband, Roy; stepbrother, Marvin Miller; stepsister-in-law, Phyllis Miller; and other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Delbert and Leona (Rowe-Miller) Wilson, Phyllis is also preceded in death by her stepfather, Harry Miller; brother, Jerald Miller; stepbrother, Wayne Miller; sister, Avis Johnson; great-granddaughter, Natalie Zimmer; and nephew, Kim Miller.
