Show choir competition will entertain all ages

There are events for Albert Leans of all ages this weekend. For the young ones, the Kids’ Fishing Expo will be at the Northbridge Mall in Albert Lea. The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes information about fishing, games and prizes for children. There are 30 booths filled with information about the outdoors for children.
Every age will enjoy the annual show choir competition on Saturday that showcases show choirs from around the area. The event starts at 9 a.m. at Albert Lea High School and there are performances throughout the day. The finals show starts at 7 p.m. with a performance by Albert Lea’s own ‘Cat’aclysmic show choir. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.

Friday
• Enjoy student art at the Elementary/Secondary Art Show, on exhibit at the Albert Lea Art Center through April 2. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
• Workplace wellness roundtable discussion from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea.
• Montessori Children’s House fish, burger and pulled pork supper from 5 to 8 p.m. at Albert Lea’s American Legion. Tickets are $8.
Saturday
• Enjoy student art at the Elementary/Secondary Art Show, on exhibit at the Albert Lea Art Center through April 2. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
• Show choir competition at Albert Lea High School, 9 a.m. start time with finals starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
• The Scouting for Food event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds, and scouts will also be picking up donations on doorsteps. Any non-perishable food items or donations are appreciated.
• Community shredding event at American Bank from 9 a.m. to noon. A donation of $5 per grocery bag or box of documents is suggested. The nonprofit Crime Stoppers of America is hosting the event so people can safely destroy sensitive documents.
• Check out the Kids’ Fishing Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northbridge Mall. The event is free and open to the public.
• Albert Lea Community Education is hosting a free maple syrup-making class from 1 to 3 p.m. at Myre Big Island State Park.
• ABATE of Minnesota Flatlander will have a chili feed at 5 p.m. at the Albert Lea Moose Lodge. Cost is $3 a bowl or $6 for all you can eat.
• Support the Eagles softball team at the Eagles triathlon, sign up starts at 11 a.m. and play starts at noon. Activities include pool, darts and Wii bowling, and it costs just $5 to enter. There will be door prizes throughout the evening and Kat Blu will perform starting at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday
• Pannakaker breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sons of Norway Lodge in Albert Lea. Adults are $6, children are $3 and kids 5 and under are free. The menu includes pannakaker, scrambled eggs, ham, lingonberries, juice and coffee.
• Come to a breakfast and veteran exhibit at the Albert Lea American Legion from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The exhibit will honor veterans serving in the forces during the Vietnam War era, including photos taken by veterans. Cost is $7 with $1 going to the church youth group of your choice. Menu consists of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, fruit, coffee and juice.
• Enjoy the musical stylings of Club Swing hosted by the Albert Lea Civic Music Series. The event starts at 3 p.m. at Albert Lea High School and admission is by season ticket only.
