AUSTIN — Rivers could remain fairly high for a few more days, as the National Weather Service predicts more rain throughout today.

Near Austin, Turtle Creek reached 10.9 feet — its highest point — on Sunday night. On Monday, it dropped back below flood stage of 10.5 feet, according to a hydrological monitor.

The creek could rise above flood stage today and crest at 12 feet on Wednesday, according to Rod Donavon, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Turtle Creek flows into the Cedar River in Austin and starts at Geneva Lake in Freeborn County.

Austin has a 90 percent chance of precipitation today, which could bring anywhere from 0.5 to 0.75 inches of rain. If Austin gets 0.75 inches or more, the rivers could go up a little more.

Although NWS only forecasts precise precipitation totals 24 hours in advance, Austin could be looking at thunderstorms this weekend, too.

However, with nearly all the snow gone, rivers should subside later in the week, according to Donavon.

Portions of Minnesota could also see a shot of snow Wednesday; however, there looks to be no significant accumulation.
