2 Panther wrestlers still alive at state

ST.PAUL– Seth Petranek was the only New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panther wrestler to win his first round match Friday, but he lost in the second round as the Panthers put four wrestlers into the consolation bracket at the Class A state individual tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Petranek earned his first round win with a 7-1 decision over Wylie Pullis of Border West to move into the second round of the 189 pound weight class.
In the second round, Petranek met No. 7 rated David Joseph of Kimball Area.
Joseph scored two takedowns in the first period to take a a 4-1 lead after the first period.
In the second period, Petranek turned Joseph onto his back and received a two point near fall to cut Joseph’s lead to 4-3.
Joseph then scored an escape toward the end of the second period to take a 5-3 lead.
In the third, Joseph scored a crucial take down and held on to score the 7-5 victory knocking Petranek into the consolation bracket.
Petranek then defeated Cory Wensmann of Royalton/Upsala 7-2 in the first round of the consolation bracket to move onto the second round.
Dustin Esplan is the other Panther currently going as Esplan lost by a decision to Justin Doerr of LA/RP to be put into the 119 pound consolation bracket.
Esplan then defeated Benson’s Morgan Staton by a major decision of 12-3 to move on into the second round of the consolation bracket.
Three of the five Panthers wrestlers were knocked out of the tournament completely on Friday.
Brandon Le Blanc at 135 pounds lost by fall to No. 2 ranked Mike Jarnot of Holdingford in the first round.
In the consolation bracket, Le Blanc faced ninth ranked Rusty Grisim of Lake City and lost by a 6-4 decision.
Jacob Staloch opened his first round match at 140 pounds against the No. 1- ranked wrestler in the state in Clint Poster of Pierz.
Poster defeated Staloch by a fall in 1:29 seconds to push Staloch into the consolation bracket.
Staloch lost in the first round of the consolation bracket by a 4-0 decision to Rij Koehnen.
David Lassahn lost in the first round of the tournament as he lost to Chrisitan Skillings of Minneota by a 10-0 major decision.
Lasshan was knocked out of the tournament completely when Skillings lost in the second round of the state tournament.
