The right eastbound lane of Interstate 90 near Alden was closed for several hours Monday after a semi went off the road and overturned.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Viessman semi out of Gary, S.D., was traveling eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 148, when the driver lost control of the semi.

The incident took place just before 4 a.m.

The driver of the semi was listed as Robert Alan Miller, 56, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

State Patrol Lt. Jeff Westrum said Miller reportedly heard something move behind him and turned around to take a look.

“The next thing he knew he had veered off the road,” Westrum said.

Westrum said he did not know what the semi was carrying but noted it was not hazardous.

A commercial vehicle inspection was also conducted on both the truck and the driver, and no significant violations were found.

A Minnesota Department of Transportation news release sent out at 2:25 p.m. Monday stated all lanes of eastbound Interstate 90 had been re-opened between Highway 109 and exit 154, near Alden.
