A 27-year-old Albert Lea man who possessed child pornography will have to abide by a long list of court-mandated terms to avoid an even harsher punishment.
Travis Holst, who pleaded guilty in January to possessing child pornography, was sentenced Monday in Freeborn County District Court to seven to 10 years of probation and 15 days of electronic monitoring in his home.
He received a stay of imposition, which means if he abides by his probation terms, he would avoid another court hearing to reconsider his sentence.
He cannot use or possess alcohol or attend a place where alcohol primarily is sold or served. All contact with children must be in public settings. He must register as a sex offender, supply DNA and submit to polygraph tests. He cannot use or possess computers or “media devices” at his residence. He cannot possess a cell phone. He neither can enter a place where sexual entertainment is displayed nor can be possess sexually explicit materials. Further, he cannot possess material with child themes, such as children’s books.
Holst is not required to serve jail time under Minnesota law because of his criminal history score, though breaking his probation terms could result in time behind bars.
Authorities reportedly found multimedia files on Holst’s computer during a search of his residence that involved 10 or 12-year-old children engaged in sexual acts.
