According to the report, Johnson lost control on the road at 8:44 p.m. near milemarker 135 after passing traffic. She hit a guardrail and was thrown in the path of an oncoming semi. The car was hit by the semi in what authorities are calling a “right-angle crash.”

Both vehicles had been traveling eastbound.

The driver of the 2001 Volvo TT semi, Troy D. Hanson, 44, of Leland, Iowa, was not injured.

The report states the road was wet at the time of the crash, and it occurred the same time the area had been in the middle of rain and a wintry mix.

The Albert Lea Police Department, Faribault County Sheriff’s Office and Wells Police Department assisted.
