Here are highlights in history for April 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — Albert Lea’s Joyce Matthies Dance Centre won several awards at the Minnesota State Dance Contest held in Brooklyn Park.

1981 — A Tribune editorial said an open winter and dry spring conditions were creating a serious fire danger, especially in areas with much grass.

1951 — Thirty members of Albert Lea’s State Guard unit were sent to North Mankato to help protect this flooded community from looters.
