Here are highlights in history for April 14, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1990 — An editorial in the Tribune saluted the Rev. Gilbert Kuyper for his 50 years as a Presbyterian pastor.
1980 — The Albert Lea High School baseball team would be opening their new season with a game the following day. The opponents would be Mankato East and this game would be played at Albert Lea’s Hayek Field.
1940 — According to the Albert Lea City Hostess, 155 families with a total of 446 members moved into the city during the previous year.
