Travel Class of Albert Lea held its annual prayer breakfast and the first meeting of the 2011 calendar year on March 21 at the home of Marlene Behle. Assisting with the meal were Jane Colby, Julie Gilbertson and Muriel Sargent. Nine members attended.
Guest speaker Steve Piper, youth director at First Presbyterian Church, shared his experiences volunteering in Haiti during October 2010. He presented slides showing the people and the continued devastation of the country. A donation for a water filter for Haiti will be given in Piper’s name to this project at the First Presbyterian Church.
Sargent conducted the business meeting. She reported that children’s books have been donated to the “Countdown to Literacy” program at the Brookside Education Center. The Books for Kids committee has recently received 127 books as memorials and gifts. As March is Food Share Month, it was voted to make a monetary donation to the Ecumenical Food Pantry.
The next meeting will be held on April 18 at the home of Shirley Chryst.
