A.L. boys’ track and field gets 2nd

AUSTIN — Tommy Tiegs placed first in three events Thursday as the Albert Lea boys’ track and field finished second of four teams at a Big Nine Conference quadrangular in Austin.
The Tigers scored 68 points to edge Mankato West (60.5) and beat Austin (34.5). Owatonna (107) won the meet.
Tiegs placed first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and finished fifth in the long jump. Tiegs also anchored the Tigers 4×100-meter relay team, also including Kyle Kriewall, Alik Smed and Joseph Daniels, which finished first.
Kriewall finished second with a 19-foot, 5.75-inch long jump, and Smed and Tyler Wichmann placed first and second, respectively, in the high jump.
Brody Sundblad won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a season-best performances, and Sean Laurie won the 800-meter run. Bryce DeBoer and Derik Devries placed third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.
The Tigers compete again at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a conference triangular at Rochester John Marshall High School.
