Holiday Park Golf Course will be converted into farmland

HAYWARD — Holiday Park Golf Course has been sold and will be converted into farmland.

The nine-hole course, which is one-half mile east off Interstate 90 on County Road 46 in Hayward, was sold this month by co-owners Randy and Tammy Fett to Lynch Farms. Tammy Fett, of rural Lyle, said Lynch Farms bought the property, which contains the 21-acre golf course and about 43 acres of farmland, to convert it all into farmland.

Classifieds advertising the auction of the property ran in the Tribune on March 13 and 16. The auction was held on March 26 but the course went unsold. It was later sold privately.

The classifieds asked for a $30,000 down payment due on the day of the auction with the balance paid on or about April 25, 2011.

Fett said she and Randy bought Holiday Park with hope of keeping it a golf course. She said the course just wasn’t being used enough, though.

“The economy hasn’t recovered, and with high gas prices it’s the leisure activities that get cut first,” Fett said. “It’s a tough business to make money in.”

Holiday Park Golf Course opened in 1966 and was considered one of the least expensive golf courses around. During the 2010 season, an adult membership was $99, and a family membership was $230.

The course was best known for having one of the area’s only driving ranges.
