Here are highlights in history for May 2, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1989 — A map in the Tribune showed the 102-mile route of the Freeborn County American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon, which would be held for the 17th time on Saturday, four days later.
1979 — The Albert Lea Community Theater would be presenting the play, “Bell Book and Candle,” at the Southwest Junior High School Little Theater. This play was directed by Sue Jorgenson.
1949 — Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. announced it would soon be using a new 225-mile underground long distance coaxial telephone cable between Minneapolis and Des Moines, Iowa.
