Here are highlights in history for May 17, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — This was the last day of public service for Mel Bangert and Robert Sprinborg, lieutenants with the Albert Lea Police Department. Their combined time as police officers was nearly 48 years.
1976 — The creative cooking talents of Freeborn County 4-H members were featured with the Favorite Food Fair held at the Skyline Mall.
1956 — A total of 26 young ladies participated in the 1956 Miss Minnesota Pageant held in Albert Lea.
