Here are highlights in history for May 18, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1987 — Rory Larsen of Albert Lea joined the Tribune staff to become district sales manager for the circulation department.
1977 — For the School District 241 board election in 1976, a Tribune report said 2,141 voters participated. In contrast, only 263 voters participated in the 1977 election the previous day.
1947 — The Albert Lea Jaycees purchased a war surplus building for use as the new mess hall at Camp Moraine. (The camp area is now part of Myre-Big Island State Park.)
